About the format

What is a WebP file?

WebP is an image format released by Google in 2010. It supports lossy and lossless compression, transparency and animation in one format, usually at smaller sizes than JPG or PNG.

All modern browsers display WebP. Some older desktop tools, email clients and upload validators still do not, which is why it is worth testing.

FAQ

WebP files: common questions

Do all browsers support WebP?

All current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari do. Safari added support in version 14 on macOS Big Sur and later.

Is animated WebP better than GIF?

Usually. Animated WebP supports full color and alpha transparency and is typically much smaller than the same animation as a GIF.

Can I use these images in commercial projects?

Yes. Every image here is free for any use, including commercial testing, demos and tutorials. No attribution is required.

Can I download the same image more than once?

Yes, as many times as you like. There is no sign-up, no daily limit and no waiting timer. Direct links also work in scripts, CI jobs and automated tests.
