DOCX has been the default Microsoft Word format since Office 2007. It is part of Office Open XML (ECMA-376, ISO/IEC 29500): a ZIP archive holding XML for text, styles and relationships, plus any media files.
Because a DOCX file is a ZIP archive, it starts with the bytes PK. When accepting uploads, check the extension and the internal structure, not just the first bytes.

for p in doc.paragraphs[:5]:
print(p.style.name, "-", p.text)curl -O https://samplefiles.technologychannel.org/files/docx/sample.docxYes. They follow the Office Open XML standard, so Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice, Pages and libraries such as python-docx can all read them.
DOC is the older binary Word format used until 2003. DOCX is the XML-based format used since 2007. Most systems today expect DOCX.
