MESSY FOLDERS - SAMPLE ARCHIVE
Sample Files by Technology Channel
https://samplefiles.technologychannel.org

This archive imitates a real, untidy folder that someone zipped up from their
computer. Use it to test upload pipelines, archive extractors, file browsers,
sync tools, search indexers and anything that walks a directory tree.

What is inside on purpose
- Nested folders, up to 8 levels deep (Documents/Old/Older/Oldest/...)
- Duplicate file names in different folders (notes.txt, data.csv)
- "New Folder", "New Folder (2)" and empty folders
- Copies and versions: "Copy of Copy of report FINAL v3.docx", "(1)", "(conflicted copy)"
- Upper-case and mixed extensions: .JPG, .PDF, .MP3, .JSON, .TXT
- Spaces, multiple spaces, dots, ampersands and brackets in names
- Unicode names (ñandú, 日本語, файл, Ελληνικά, नेपाली) and an emoji name
- A 180-character file name at the top level
- Zero-byte files (zero-bytes.dat, empty-file.log)
- Files without an extension (LICENSE, Makefile)
- A PNG image saved as photo.jpg (extension does not match the content)
- An archive inside the archive (Downloads/archive.zip) and a .tar.gz
- Hidden and system files: .DS_Store, .gitkeep, Thumbs.db, desktop.ini
- An Office lock file (~$temp report.docx) and a __MACOSX folder

Every name is valid on Windows, macOS and Linux, so the archive extracts
cleanly everywhere. Free to use for testing and development, including commercial projects. No attribution required.
